Thrifty Finds

Lately for some reason, I have fallen in love with blazers. If you have been following my blog, you will see two of them that have been in heavy rotation over the past couple of months. After my friends had a blazer intervention with me, I decided to put my trusty orange JCP Worthington  & green Eloquii blazers on ice for a little while. Putting them in temporary retirement really put me in a pickle; I had no colored blazers to wear. Thankfully a little light went off in my head and I decided to go thrifting.

It had been a while, so I decided to scope out the Last Chance Thrift Store on Thornton Road this past Saturday. I was amazed to see so many fabulous things. I immediately picked out 5 blazers that would have totaled about 45 dollars. However, I decided to take a chance and wait until today to purchase them because everything at Last Chance is 50% off on Mondays. Now anyone who's a thrifter knows that this is a HUGE gamble. There are normally no 2 clothing items that are exactly identical in a thrift store, so finders keepers.

Of course when I get to Last Chance on my lunch hour, the parking lot is jam packed and there are 3 million people in the store. I immediately begin to panic. Thankfully 4 of my 5 blazers were still there and I also scored some FAB earrings that I will re-purpose for a future project. All in all, I had a great day thrifting and by waiting until today I was able to score all my goodies for only $20!!! If you don't thrift, I strongly recommend you start! There are lots of fab finds and great deals for the budget fashionista!

"Rebirth"

This past weekend I had the opportunity to meet one of my favorite rappers of all time, Pastor Troy! He popped in at House of Adrene while I was attending Swapnista Day. I can not tell you how elated I was to meet him and how glad I was to see that he was still on his grind. With such hits as "Vice Versa" & "No Mo Play in Ga", Pastor Troy has away of delivering lyrics with an aggressive exuberance that completely captivates his listeners and penetrates to the core of their very being. When you first hear the bass line of "No Mo Play in Ga", the "crunk" immediately overtakes you and you willingly venture down the rabbit hole of emotions that his music perpetuates. He is a rapper that was before his time, and my friend KM and I have often debated as to what his success level would have been if those very hits would have been released now, in the height of the social media age.

However, all things happen for a reason, and sometimes we only reach a certain point in our careers because we are being groomed for something greater, a "rebirth" so to speak. Pastor Troy's rebirth is now with the premier of his movie, "We Was Homeboyz". The movie is a riveting tail of friendship, hustling, love and betrayal with the city of Atlanta as it's backdrop. The movie will officially premier on  May 10, 2012 at the Rialto Center here in Atlanta. I encourage all of you to support his venture. For ticket information visit www.rialtocenter.org . Check out the promotional video below and follow him on twitter @pastortroydsgb !

Two-Way Tuesday

Happy Tuesday! As promised, I am delivering you a new Two-Way Tuesday look. Today I decided to show my FAVE floral shirt from JC Penney worn 2 ways; a date night look and a daytime look. Previously I posted myself wearing the date night version (Bandage Skirt from Forever 21, skinny belt from Eloquii , and shoes and clutch from Target  .

Today I decided to break out my green ASOS jeans and give my top a casual spin. Intead of belting my top I let it flow freely and paired it with neon accessories. Neon is basically the new black. You can put a neon with almost anything and it will definitely compliment it. My shoes are from no longer available but were purchased from Sole Society and my neon double clutch is from Target. To top it all off, I am wearing AWESOME nude & neon earrings from a local designer Denise Francis . Her earrings are very unique and you want see yourself walking around.

So, there you have it. Another fun way to wear one piece two ways! I hope you enjoyed and thanks for stopping by!

See you on the front row-

Swapnista Day Recap

Yesterday my friend Melinda & I went to one of the most unique shopping experiences ever! Pretty Girls Rock Dress & Two Stylish Kays, sponsored the twice yearly Swapnista Day at House of Adrene Boutique located in Castleberry Hills. Swapnista Day is the brain child of Keren Charles, founder of Two Stylish Kays . Now I know most of you are wondering "What the hell is Swapnista Day?" as did I, but I was very surprised to find it was more than just swapping clothes. Back in 2008 Keren, came up with the concept as a way for women to get together and network, swap fashion, get pampered and support local charities.

Runway @ House of Adrene

Basically you bring 3 gently used pieces (clothing or accessories), log them in with the hostess, grab a wristband with you number and soak up the ambiance until your group is called to enter the coveted swap room. This year, the event was hosted at House of  Adrene which is an uber trendy, upscale boutique with a runway right down the middle of the store!

Before the swap began, 15 fabulous bloggers including 2 of my faves Tami of Talking With Tami & The Undercover Socialite, Nikka of Oh! Nikka , competed for the "Coveted Clutch Award" in the Style Wars Competition. Yours truly found out about the event too late, that's why I didn't participate. But anyway the ladies hit the runway rocking 1 of the 5 most popular trends(color blocking, floral, tribal print, neon and peplum) for Spring & Summer 2012. Although all the ladies looked fab, only @flywon emerged victorious in a fab color block blazer and strappy wedge sandals!

After the competition, the Swap Room finally opened. Now, there was not a lot of curvy girl clothing to choose from, but I was able to snag a couple of items for some of my of my skinny girlfriends! All in all I had a great time and met lots of new people!  Swapnista Day gets the Parker Simmons Stamp of Approval! I will for sure be at the one in the fall and will keep you posted!

Think Like A Man...

Ladies & Gents you MUST check out "Think Like A Man"!!! I had the pleasure of going to see this movie yesterday and it is absolutely HILARIOUS! With an all star cast including Kevin Hart, Gabrielle Union & Taraji P. Henson to name a few, this movie will make you laugh, cry, contemplate your relationship status or be thankful for who you have. The chemistry between the cast members and the overall flow of the movie kept me engaged the entire time. There was never a dull moment. This movie good, I just may go and see it again tomorrow and hopefully, I will "See you on the front row"!

Two-Way Tuesday

The other day I was brainstorming on a new feature column. Style Star seemed like a good idea, but no one made any submissions, so, I had to put it on the rocks for a little while. Since then, I have come up with Two-Way Tuesdays. Each week I will choose at least one piece of clothing and show you how to where it two ways, hence the the not so clever name of Two-Way Tuesdays! Any who, now that you understand my whole creative process lol, check out what I am featuring this week!

I decided to "Two-Way Tuesday" my Forever 21+ Tribal Print Skirt. I picked it up online a couple of weeks ago for the Style Steal price of $8!!! It was so dirt cheap, I ordered it in 2 other colors. In addition to the skirt, I picked up my black cropped tank for $6 bucks and also snagged it in 2 other colors. In order to top it all off, I had to pull out  my FAVE orange blazer from J.C. Penney and neon clutch from Target

This week I decided to spice things up a little and wear my skirt as a tube top! I paired it with of course my orange blazer (I promise I do own other jackets lol), white leggings from Stein Mart, color block Steve Madden Pumps and a vintage, ostrich leather Furla bag. In case you didn't notice, I am also sporting noticeably shorter hair! Thanks to my bff Leslee Worrell, Master Designer at The Look by Les Mobile Glam Services, I will be sporting a new look each month, to keep you inspired!

So remember, be creative and think out of the box when it comes to fashion. Be adventurous and stay tuned for a new Two-Way Tuesday look next week! Until next time....

The Wonderful World of Wole'

Effortless, Timeless and Chic are three words that come to mind when I think of Nicole Clark and Wole' (woah lay) Designs. I had the opportunity to meet Nicole in December, just after her line had launched.  I was immediately impressed by her designs and instantly saw her raw talent an innate ability to not only provide precise fit & function, but also a very unique interpretation of modern vintage styling.

Me & Nicole Clark
As I talked more with Nicole, I found out that she always wanted to have her own clothing line. Because she is so statuesque, she would often modify her own clothing to fit her size and personality. Like most of us, Nicole had big dreams, but not enough start up capital to make them happen, so after completing college, she found herself in the real estate industry. Thankfully for all of us curvy girls, Nicole never gave up on her dreams. She saved and sacrificed to bring Wole' (woah lay) Designs to reality. Just knowing Nicole's story is a true testament of her character and the kind of passion that she has for designing clothes.

Her Spring and Summer collection is vibrant, fun and a breath of fresh air for full figured fashion. The "Mile High Pencil Skirts" and beautiful printed blouses are very well tailored and will withstand the test of time. Each piece of her collection coordinates so well with each other that they can be interchanged and some pieces can even carry over to the fall. I love the energy that her designs promote. They are truly a reflection of their designer.

I am so excited for Nicole and the launch of her new collection. She is such an amazing person and designer. She has surrounded herself with people that believe in her and her vision and I know she is going to wildly successful. For more information about her collection, visit www.woledesigns.com .You can also connect with her on Facebook and follow her on Twitter . Check out some of my photos from the show below. I hope you enjoy and please support this wonderful clothing line and designer!
